BACKGROUND

About Operator Labs

Operator is a powerful search engine designed specifically for the blockchain industry. It serves as the go-to resource for finding accurate, up-to-date information on people, organizations, and projects in the financial and crypto space.

The context for this project

Upon realizing that to get the most updated news on specific events, one had to jump between various news sites and a slew of social media posts to find what they needed, the co-founders saw an opportunity to leverage their technology to build a product where everything could be found on 1 platform. They wanted a platform to consolidate information from news sources, social media, and prediction markets.

RESEARCH

3 main takeaways

  • No direct competitors in this space (either just prediction market sites, news sites, or social media on their own)

  • The public had mixed views on the efficacy of prediction markets.

    • Some believe there aren’t many relevant and reliable resources/voices to supplement the use of and validate the trustworthiness of prediction markets

    • Others believe they are efficient means of gathering good and accurate information in and of itself due to its decentralized nature

  • Common perception of sites that contain news being overwhelming and cluttered

DEFINE

Business goals

  • Strengthen product value by being the first product of its kind and offering a unique product experience

  • Sharing a link to this platform should offer value that is far superior than sharing any news article or Polymarket link

User and customer goals

  • Provide a seamless browsing experience through thoughtful design that is mindful of information overload

  • Share information in a way that helps users make the most informed decisions in prediction markets

PROJECT SHIFT

Nearing the end of the project, the focus and direction started shifting away from news stories in the spotlight to prediction markets and their relationship with the news.

Our newfound goal was to create an interactive platform that would merge real-time prediction market data with curated content to allow users to correlate shifts in market odds with external events directly.

While it was unfortunate to let go of some of the progress we made, I had a good foundation of research and design assets to shift and ideate rapidly to formulate a new design quickly.

NEXT STEPS

Testing & reiterations

Since the product is still under development, I have not been able to gain real feedback from users. However, once it is launched, I would love for a chance to do some usability testing to validate design decisions and gather information on points of improvement. From there, I would make essential changes to the design, go back to the drawing board if necessary, and continue to rinse and repeat.
