VISUAL CONSIDERATIONS

I took a neo-brutalist approach to the design to communicate authenticity, liveliness, and simplicity.

Coffeebird was seeking a new way to do coffee subscriptions that would involve local businesses and in-person ordering, so the branding and app experience needed to reflect that novelty.

Bright and bold colors paired with geometric shapes and unapologetic border lines were used to shy away from conventional corporate designs in existing coffee apps for a refreshing and inviting experience.

CREATING THE LOGO

Aiming for a balance of playful and techy, I opted for a causal design with simpler shapes as my base. To play with the Coffeebird name, I wanted to make each reference to the name (“coffee” and “bird”) distinct enough for users to understand the wordplay while also seamlessly integrating them together.

I gathered feedback which helped narrow down the clearest design. There was some initial confusion about what the shape represented due to the obscure wing shape combined with the use of negative space. A few iterations later, I landed on the final design which participants then had no problem identifying while still retaining that negative space.
